In the heart of Guwahati, amidst the tranquil beauty of the Brahmaputra river, a beacon of hope shone brightly on a crisp March morning. Organised with meticulous care and dedication, a one-day seminar on mental well-being with the theme “Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives” unfolded at the esteemed Don Bosco Institute, Kharguli, Guwahati. The event drew a diverse crowd, including priests, religious, teachers, university students, youth leaders, staff, and lay leaders from various parishes and Salesian centres. Led by Fr. Marcus, the Youth Commission delegate of the Province of Guwahati, the event commenced with an aura of warmth and reverence as distinguished guests and esteemed resource persons were welcomed with traditional ‘phoolan gamochas’ and bouquets.

Don Bosco College Anagdikadavu successfully concluded a six-month certificate course in counselling psychology organized by the Department of Psychology. The ceremony, held at the college auditorium on February 13, saw the distribution of certificates to 35 participants from diverse backgrounds, marking the culmination of their journey into the realm of counselling psychology.

Don Bosco Sadan, a Rehabilitation Centre for Boys at Monvila, Thiruvananthapuram, was inaugurated by Antony Raju, Hon. Minister for Road Transport, Govt of Kerala, on November 26, 2022. Envisioned by the Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society (BREADS) as part of its Drug Rehabilitation Education and Mentoring (DREAM) initiative, the centre provides children and youth in Kerala a way to sobriety and health.

To raise awareness among youngsters and children on the consequences of drug abuse and digital addiction, BREADS (Bangalore Rural Education And Development Society), the development office of the Salesian Province of Bangalore, launched the DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education And Mentoring) project on November 20, 2021, at Don Bosco Vaduthala, the Valdocco of Bangalore Province. The DREAM Project was inaugurated and launched by Nelson, Joint Excise Commissioner of Crime Branch, Ernakulam. FatherJose Koyickal, Provincial, Bangalore Province, released the logo.

The Planning and Development Organisation (PDO; BREADS Bangalore) of the Province of Bangalore, to provide clarity through relevant policies to accomplish its goals, has drafted and released the Child Safeguarding Policies (CSPs) as supportive references for child-related sectors in the Province. The CSPs are for various sectors in the Province like childcare institutions, social work centres, schools, colleges, skill training centres, parishes, aspirantates, pre-novitiate, novitiate, philosophates, and the theologate.

Mumbai Salesians` Father [Dr.] Ajoy Fernandes who has a doctorate in Counselling Psychology with a major in Clinical Counselling and is Director Prafulta-Don Bosco Youth Counselling Services, Matunga-Mumbai, presents an online episodic video-series `Understanding and Helping Children with Learning Difficulties`. The video-series starting today 05 September, and to be aired on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month, on the MumbaiSalesians` Youtube Channel, are broken up into short 10-minute interactive inputs describing the symptoms of learning and related difficulties; the formal and informal ways of assessing these difficulties; the types of beneficial interventions possible and the government-endorsed concessions across India. This is a Teachers` Day gift from the famed clinical psychologist, as an appreciation to teachers all over, who mould, nourish, nurture, inspire, motivate, enlighten and mentor students on a daily basis.

Indian Salesian Father Thommai Antonyrajan of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy [INT] who was working in the Province of Sri Lanka [LKC], met a tragic end at sea, and was confirmed dead at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, 14 June 2020. He was aged 56. Father Thommai was a former Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy from 2005-2008.

MumbaiSalesians` Prafulta co-partnered with DARE (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience), a groundbreaking somatic attachment training created by Diane Poole Heller and facilitated by Patricia Meadows MS, RN, RCST, SEP - somatic experiencing practitioner and a holistic trauma therapist with over 40 years` experience facilitating healing and transformation. Modules 01 and 02 of the 04-module training for psychotherapists, trauma therapists and somatic therapists was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga-Mumbai from 28 January to 02 February 2020. Introduced in India for the 1st time by Prafulta, there were 23 participants, including 06 Assistants with Patricia Meadows, who hails from West Virginia-USA, and has trained and assisted extensively with Diane Poole Heller, the creator of DARe, before becoming a DARe faculty member.

With hands and hearts raised in prayer and praise the students at Don Bosco Institutes of Higher Education, Angadikadvu, Kerala participated in the annual Inner Healing Spiritual Retreat animated by the Sehion Retreat Centre, Attappady. The four-day renewal program from 28 September to 1 October 2016 was attended by 800 Catholic students.

Mumbai: Don Bosco Balprafulta, Mumbai received the `` Rashtriya Sanman Award`` and ``Quality Brand India Award 2015 -17`` on 30 April, 2015, the eve of Maharashtra Day, at Hotel Kohinoor Continental, Andheri. The award is a recognition and appreciation for the social and humanitarian work done in the field of promotion and protection of child rights by Balprafulta from its inception in 2000.

BANGALORE: A new child assistance centre was inaugurated in Bangalore Railway Station under the direction of Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota (BOSCO) on 9 July by Mr. Anil Kumar Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Western Railways. It was a long time wish for BOSCO that has been actualized by obtaining from the Railways a rent free space with adequate facilities for the rescued children in the platforms. BOSCO is a voluntary organization of the Salesians of Bangalore province working primarily for the rescue and rehabilitation of street, run away and working children in the city of Bangalore.

NEW DELHI: BOSCO (Bosco Organisation for Social Concern and Operation), New Delhi has won the Pascual Chavez Award for Innovative Ministry, after having been short listed along with 3 other out reach ministry expressions of the Salesian Family for the year 2013. The award was conferred on 28 May 2014 at Yercaud, Salem, on BOSCO, a refugee assistance programme in operation in the Indian Capital New Delhi. The award which consists of a citation and monetary token of appreciation was handed over to Fr. Jose Mathew, Director of BOSCO by Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Councillor of the Salesians for South Asia. The ceremony took place in the presence of over 40 Salesians who had gathered together for the annual general assembly of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) at ``The Retreat``, Yercaud, Salem.

CP Varghese SDB from the Province of INK has already become the familiar word among the youth, teachers and parents of Bangalore. Started just six months ago, the Centre has already helped hundreds of teens, school children, teachers and parents in the city of Bangalore. True to the vision of Sowbhagya, which is `Holistic Growth - Key to Fulfilment`, it has made gigantic efforts during the past few months of its existence to be of service to people from all walks of life.
