The current Rector Major is Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB. On 25 March 2025, he was solemnly elected as the 11th successor of Don Bosco by 227 capitulars representing 135 nations during the 29th General Chapter.
His maiden visit to India as Superior General took place from 5 to 17 February 2026.
Celebrating a legacy of education in the Salesian cradle of South India, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, commemorated its Platinum Jubilee on Monday evening. Marking 75 years of service in higher education with a strong emphasis on value-based formation, the milestone celebration was graced by the Rector Major, Rev. Fr. Fabio Attard, lending special significance to the occasion.
The Rector Major’s visit to the Don Bosco Aspirantate, Tirupattur, unfolded as a deeply personal and formative encounter with Salesians in initial formation, marked by warmth, attentiveness, and genuine openness. Far from a formal address, the interaction took the form of an engaging dialogue, with the Rector Major patiently answering questions and offering fatherly counsel rooted in Salesian spirituality.
The Salesian Family came together on the evening of February 15 at Don Bosco, Katpadi, for a moment of prayer, reflection, and communion centred on the presence of the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB. The gathering highlighted the unity and vitality of the Salesian charism as members from across its diverse branches assembled around their spiritual leader.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr. Fabio Attard, presided over the Holy Eucharist at Sacred Heart Church, a mission renowned for its deep-rooted faith life shaped by local culture, committed education, pastoral care, and sustained social outreach.
On the evening of 13 February, the Rector Major visited Don Bosco Beatitudes, a Social Welfare Centre, as it marked the Diamond Jubilee of its establishment. For the past sixty years, the centre has been lovingly catering to the needs of people from the womb to the tomb. While addressing the gathering, the Rector Major exhorted those present: “Never stop believing in the future of our young people. They deserve it, and it is our duty to accompany and help them, even when it is difficult. This will ensure a good future for them. We need to be like Don Bosco — believing in them, educating them, and preparing them for their future.” His message resonated deeply with the founding vision of the devoted Salesian missionaries who built up the centre, Fr. Montovani and Fr. Schlooz, who firmly believed that “No one has the right to be happy alone.”
The Salesian Province of Chennai (INM) experienced a landmark occasion on February 13, as it welcomed the Rector Major, Rev. Fr. Fabio Attard, for his maiden visit. The historic journey began with a warm, fraternal reception at the Chennai Airport by the Provincial and his Council, followed by an equally heartfelt welcome at the Salesian Provincial House. The atmosphere was one of profound joy as a vibrant assembly of confreres and members of the Salesian Family gathered to greet him. A spirited group of young people from Don Bosco Arts & Science College added to the festive energy, expressing their filial affection through a joyous felicitation. Fr. Fabio was joined on this significant visit by Fr. Biju Michael, General Councillor for South Asia, and Fr. Thathireddy, Secretary to the Rector Major.

The book offers readers a comprehensive history of one of the most influential Catholic missionary journeys across eastern India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
