The current Rector Major is Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB. He was elected as the 11th successor of Don Bosco during the 29th General Chapter of the Society of St. Francis de Sales.
In a communiqué, on behalf of the Rector Major, Fr. Biju Michael, the General Councillor for South Asia, has announced Fr. Ashley Miranda, SDB, as the new Provincial of the Salesian Province of St. Francis Xavier [INB] for the six-year term of 2025-2031. Fr. Ashley will assume the office at the end of Fr. Savio Silveira's mandate.
The first plenary meeting of the newly elected General Council during the 29th General Chapter (GC29) is taking place at the Salesian Headquarters in Rome. This session serves to fulfill the General Council's specific responsibilities and foster mutual understanding among members, laying the foundation and outlining the roadmap for the work of the next six-year term.
The newly elected Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, has appointed Fr Thathireddy Vijayabhaskar as his Personal Secretary at the Generalate in Rome. The appointment comes while Fr Thathireddy serves as the Salesian community's Rector at Colle Don Bosco, Italy.

It was a solemn and profoundly spiritual occasion marked by gratitude and reflection, during which the Salesian Family gathered to thank God for the Eucharist gift and meditate on the mission and vision of Don Bosco's successor.
In a 20-minute speech, Fr. Fabio, the newly elected Rector Major, outlined perspectives and clear priorities, offering thought-provoking challenges. Speaking in a warm and direct tone, he emphasized the importance of clarity in Salesian identity and the significance of the day's event.
A visionary and charismatic leader, Fr. Fabio Attard brings to the helm of the Salesian Congregation a profound spirituality, a dynamic and forward-thinking vision, and decades of rich pastoral and administrative experience. As the new Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard will lead a Congregation of 13,750 consecrated Salesians, organized in 92 provinces and present in 136 nations.

The Vicar of the Salesian Congregation, Fr Stefano Martoglio, took charge ad interim until the election of the Rector Major, which will take place during the 29th General Chapter in Turin from February 16 to April 12, 2025. This was communicated by the Cardinal Angel Fernandez Artime, who resigned from the office of the Rector Major of the Society of St Francis de Sales upon being ordained as a Cardinal.

On Thursday, GROW BOSCO, a tree plantation campaign of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, India, was initiated by the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Father Ángel ernandez Artime. On the occasion of the Team Visit 2023 to the South Asia Region, the Rector Major and the General Councillors, along with the children who accompanied them, went on a plantation spree in the premises of the Provincial House in Hyderabad.
The second day of the Team Visit of the General Council dealt with youth and youth ministry. Father Miguel Garcia, General Councillor for Youth Pastoral, restating the words of Don Bosco, said, ‘Be the signs of the times.’ He continued to explain that the signs of the times in the present digital world mean: scanned, read, interpreted, and assessed.
