College and university education (Higher Education) is the most recent "frontier" of the Salesian mission. While Don Bosco originally focused on basic literacy and trades, the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) network now coordinates more than 95 institutions across five continents.

Salesian Higher Education embraces a two-fold mission: fostering academic competence that prepares students to excel in the global job market, while maintaining Salesian animation as a “radiant center” of the Preventive System, marked by family spirit and personal accompaniment. For Salesians, a college is more than a place for degrees—it is an academic community that witnesses the Gospel within culture and equips the marginalized with tools for dignity and social mobility.

Don Bosco Higher Education India (DBHEI) is affiliated to the Salesian Institutes of Higher Learning (IUS), Rome, Italy to cater to the needs of the Higher Education Institutions in the South Asia Region. There are 52 institutions belonging to 12 Provinces of the South Asia Region. Higher education courses offered include Engineering and Polytechnic Colleges, Agricultural colleges, Arts, Commerce and Science Colleges, Colleges of Education and Specialization centres.
