Bosco emphasizes that India's economy relies heavily on the hard work of migrant and informal workers, who often remain invisible despite their critical role in shaping the nation's progress.
Don Bosco Skill Development proudly inaugurated a Residential Summer Camp to empower tribal and unemployed youth through intensive communication and computer skills training. The 45-day program, hosted at Don Bosco Parvathipuram, Andhra Pradesh, welcomed 106 students to equip them with essential tools for a brighter and more confident future.
Aimed at discussing the challenges and opportunities for rural development in Northeast India, the Department of Economics at Don Bosco College Itanagar organized a two-day national seminar on "Challenges and Opportunities for Socio-Economic Development in Rural Areas of Northeast India." Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, Vijayawada, a Salesian community of the Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, received a certificate of recognition from the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) on December 1, World AIDS Day. Once the dust settles, reality kicks in! The aftermath of the July landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, adds untold miseries to the script. Seeing their plight, BREADS Bangalore, in collaboration with Don Bosco College Sulthan Bathery, provided basic household articles and essential commodities to over 70 survivors of the landslides that hit Mundakkai and Chooralmala on November 5 as part of # We4You.
Youth Involve (YI), an initiative of Bosco Institute Jorhat, celebrated its 10th anniversary alongside the bicentennial of Don Bosco's dream from September 17–19 at Siloam, Umiam. Twenty-six young social entrepreneurs, leading as many social projects and initiatives from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, and their Salesian and lay mentors and coaches came together for three days of sharing experiences and insights, and learning from successes, failures, distractions and challenges through presentations, exhibitions, conversations, reflections, and group activities. They were welcomed by Fr. George Palamattam SDB, the founder of Siloam.
On September 6, Don Bosco Kalvi Solai launched the Butterfly Express: Library for Village Schools campaign to create well-resourced libraries in rural areas. The launch had prominent figures, including N. Ram of The Hindu, Dr. Jayakumar Reddy, and Mr. Joshua Madhan, supporting the cause. The initiative, symbolizing the transformative impact of reading, also featured the launch of Fr. John Alexander's book by Archbishop George Antonysamy.
The Ten-Day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) - 77, held from August 18 to August 28, at Don Bosco College, Golaghat, brought together 400 NCC cadets and 200 college students from various educational institutions across Golaghat, Jorhat, and other districts of Assam. Don Bosco College hosted the NCC camp for the first time, and participants from diverse backgrounds joined in enhancing their skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced trainers and officers.
The Salesian Social Forum (SSF), a group of like-minded Salesians, held a two-day National Convention at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, on August 10-11. The event, titled "Contextualizing the Dream of Don Bosco: A South Asian Workshop by Salesians in India Today," brought together about 40 Salesians from various Indian provinces to explore ways to renew Don Bosco's vision for the poor.
On 13 April seven licensed women drivers drove into the future in their own e-autos in the 7th phase of the WE Auto (Women empowerment through Electric Autos) initiative in Kollam, Kerala; joining the other trailblazers, totalling to 34 women from the local fishing community. They are literally driving change into their own lives and the lives of their communities, with the support of BREADS and its Don Bosco partner Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP).
In the idyllic setting of Bosco Institute, Lifeplus, Jorhat, the quarterly Youth Involve (YI) Review Meeting was held on September 3 and 4. The question, "Should young dreams be allowed to die?" serves as the inspiration and cornerstone of the YI initiative, offering a ray of hope and unwavering support to the youth who dare to dream.
In a remarkable display of social commitment, the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Thrissur, Kerala, rallied together to provide much-needed assistance to 70 less privileged children in their locality. With their collective efforts, the 85 Youth Centre members raised funds to purchase bags and notebooks for the children, easing the financial burden on their families and supporting their educational pursuits.
