Salesian College Sonada witnessed a leadership transition as Fr. C.M. Paul, founder-director of Radio Salesian, formally announced the appointment of Fr. Pritam Barla as the new Director of the college’s community radio station. The announcement was made on 28 October following the official appointment by Fr. Dr. Joseph Pauria, Provincial of Kolkata Salesians and President of the College Governing Body.

In recognition of his lifelong commitment to the welfare of vulnerable children, the Government of Tamil Nadu has appointed Fr. Dr. M. Casimir Raj, SDB, as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR). The appointment marks a significant step in the State’s mission to advance child rights through inclusive governance and partnership with civil society.

Fr. Dr. George Thadathil, the former Principal of Salesian College Siliguri and Sonada, has been appointed global head of Instituto Universitario Salesiano (Salesian Higher Education Institutions) based in Rome. The Vicar of the Rector, Major Fr. Stefano Martoglio, announced the appointment in an official communication released in Kolkata Salesian Provincial’s Circular on September 1.

The Vicar of the Salesian Congregation, Fr Stefano Martoglio, took charge ad interim until the election of the Rector Major, which will take place during the 29th General Chapter in Turin from February 16 to April 12, 2025. This was communicated by the Cardinal Angel Fernandez Artime, who resigned from the office of the Rector Major of the Society of St Francis de Sales upon being ordained as a Cardinal.

The Rector Major, Rev. Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco on 14 December 2022 nominated Rev. Fr Don Bosco LOURDUWAMY as the provincial designate of the Salesian Province of St Thomas the Apostle, Chennai (INM). Fr Bosco will be succeeding Fr Jose Kochamkunnel (KM) who has been serving as Provincial since February 2017. The Salesian Province of Chennai is a large and vibrant Province with 415 confreres working in 51 houses in the State of Tamil Nadu, the Union Territory of Pondicherry, and the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar in India. It has also one house at Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

Indian Salesian appointed as Consultor to the Dicastery of Communications, Rome

Pope Francis has appointed Fr. George Plathottam SDB, belonging to the Salesian Province of Guwahati, Assam, India as a Consultor to the Dicastery for Communications. The news came along with the announcement of “Speak with the heart: Veritatem facientes in caritate” as the theme for the 57th World Communications Day 2023. Father George Plathottam is currently the Secretary of the Office of Social Communication of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC). With a doctorate in communication, he has been a journalist and communication professor in New Delhi, before moving to Manila to take up the FABC assignment.

Shaji Sebastian are the two Judges from India presently judging the 6th Annual Raytheon Technologies Invention Convention US Nationals concluded on May 28, 2021. The Convention is powered by The Henry Ford Competition, with more than 400 finalists from across the United States showcasing their inventions.

Shillong: The annual Practical Trainees` Meet was held on the 6th October 2020 in DB Provincial House, Shillong. Altogether there were 13 Practical Trainees who participated at this meeting. Father John Zosiama, the Vice Provincial, welcomed the brothers who had come from different communities and some who had just finished their online University Exams in the Provincial house.
