The Salesians of Don Bosco in South Asia treat social communication as a vital dimension of their mission, recognizing its power to educate, evangelize, and build community. Rooted in Don Bosco’s own use of media and storytelling, they see communication not just as information-sharing but as a means of forming values and shaping culture. Through schools, colleges, parishes, youth centers, and technical institutes, the Salesians train young people in journalism, digital media, public speaking, and creative communication, ensuring they can engage meaningfully with modern platforms. This emphasis helps students develop critical thinking, responsible media use, and the ability to express themselves effectively in a world dominated by digital interaction.

At the institutional level, the Salesians use social communication to strengthen networks among educators, youth, and communities. They run publications, radio stations, and digital platforms that highlight issues of justice, peace, and youth empowerment. In South Asia, these initiatives often focus on giving voice to marginalized groups, promoting intercultural dialogue, and fostering solidarity. By integrating communication skills with values-based education, the Salesians ensure that young people are not only consumers of media but also creators of content that uplifts society. In this way, social communication becomes both a tool for professional development and a channel for living out Don Bosco’s vision of educating the whole person—mind, heart, and spirit.
