Father James Poonthuruthil SDB, Rector and Professor at Sacred Heart Theological College Shillong, passed away on January 21 at NEIGRIHMS (North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences) in Shillong, Meghalaya. He would have turned 63 on January 27.

Father Paul Olphindro Lyngkot SDB, the Provincial designate of the Shillong Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco mentions that he will focus on four key areas - formation, vocations, youth ministry and social development. His leadership will provide a synergy interspersed within these four key areas of work among the Salesians and the lay faithful to work for the poor youngsters.

Father Angel Fernandez Artime, the Rector Major of the Salesians appointed Father Paul Olphindro Lyngkot SDB as the new Provincial of the Salesian Province of Shillong. Father Paul will be installed as the 2nd Provincial of St. John Paul II Province, Shillong on 24th May, 2018

Graduation Ceremony at St. Anthony`s College, Shillong

The first ever graduation ceremony of St. Anthony`s College was held on the 8th July 2017. The programme was to award passing out certificates to all graduates of 2017. A total of 900+ students participated in the event. The college backed 148 ranks in the university for the year 2017; of these over 120 were awarded cash prizes and certificates of merits in person.

On the evening of Friday, 17th February 2017, Don Bosco School Lawngtlai organized a colourful programme on its campus to celebrate the Annual Parents` Day. The Chief Guest for the celebration was Mrs. Ngurhmingliani Chinzah, the Principal of DIET (District Institute of Education & Training) Lawngtlai. On arrival, the Chief Guest was escorted to the venue by Fr. Principal and the staff together with the school NCC.

Pre Christmas Vocation Camp draws large group of Boys

A seven day Vocation Camp for boys desiring to become Salesians was held at Savio Juniorate from 15th to 22nd December, 2016. Despite limiting participation to only students who have passed Classes VII and VIII, 125 boys from 39 parishes spread across the dioceses of Shillong, Nongstoi� and Jowai participated in the annual recruitment program.

Jubilee Year of Mercy concludes at Agartala

Over six thousand Catholics from twenty parishes of Tripura took part in the 8th Diocese level annual Eucharistic procession held at Agartala on 13th November 2016. After a solemn Holy Mass at Auxilium School grounds, the faithful accompanied the Blessed Sacrament in prayerful procession through select streets of Agartala. At the end of the 3-kilometer Procession the devotees gathered again at Auxilium grounds for a special session of preaching and to receive the blessing of Lord Jesus.

Chavez Retreat Guwahati begins with a clarion Call to Holiness among Salesians

Fr. Pasucal Chavez Villanueva gave a clarion call to the Salesians the world over to be holy because ``holiness is the first and foremost call of the Salesian.`` He was speaking at the opening talk of the spiritual retreat currently underway at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. Fr. Chavez, the 9th successor of Don Bosco (2002 to 2014) is scheduled to preach three retreats in India - Guwahati (Oct 24-29), Hyderabad (Oct 31st to Nov 5th) and Bangalore (Nov 7 - 12).

Delegates pledge to rekindle fire of Missionary enthusiasm in South Asia Region

The Provincial Delegates for Missionary Animation (PDMA) and a few other delegates from the twelve provinces of the South Asia Region gathered at Provincial House, Don Bosco Okhla, New Delhi together with Father Guillermo Basanes, the General Councillor for Missions, Father Nestor Guria, Delegate Provincial of SPCSA and Father T.C. George, the Regional Delegate for South Asia to reflect on the missionary dimension of the Salesian vocation and its praxis in the region. The two day meeting held on 14-15th of October 2016, and organized on behalf of SPCSA focused on the urgent need for Missionary animation in the Region.
