The Salesians of Don Bosco in South Asia understand Family Ministry as a vital dimension of their mission, deeply rooted in the insights of recent General Chapters and the Youth Ministry Frame of Reference. Family is seen as the “first school of life and faith,” where young people learn values, relationships, and identity. The General Chapters emphasize that Salesian pastoral work must not only focus on youth in isolation but also engage their families, supporting parents and guardians in their role as primary educators. Family Ministry therefore involves listening to families, accompanying them in their struggles, and strengthening their capacity to nurture faith and human development. It is a synodal approach—walking together with families—so that the Salesian mission becomes more holistic and inclusive.

In practice, the Salesians in South Asia integrate Family Ministry into schools, colleges, parishes, and youth centers by organizing family gatherings, counseling services, and workshops on parenting, communication, and faith formation. The Youth Ministry Frame of Reference highlights the importance of creating spaces where families and educators collaborate, ensuring that young people experience continuity between home and school. This ministry also extends to vulnerable families—those affected by poverty, migration, or social instability—providing them with support networks and empowerment programs. By strengthening family bonds and involving parents in the educational journey, the Salesians foster environments where young people can grow in faith, responsibility, and solidarity. In this way, Family Ministry becomes a cornerstone of their mission: nurturing not only individuals but entire communities through the vitality of family life.

The Salesian Cooperators Unit of Don Bosco Veedu organized a meaningful movie night under the theme “Watch a Movie, Support a Family,” blending art, fellowship, and outreach in the spirit of Christmas. The event featured the acclaimed Iranian film Children of Heaven, directed by Majid Majidi, with proceeds from ticket sales and refreshments earmarked to support a deserving family as part of the unit’s Christmas outreach initiative.
