Over 900 Youth Gather as Salesians Host Diocesan Fest in Muniguda

News reported by: Fr Pramod Baghsingh SDB

The Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) and the Diocese of Rayagada, organised Youth Fest 2026 at Navanirman Don Bosco, Muniguda, from March 26 to 27, bringing together more than 900 young people from across the diocese.

The two-day event, held under the theme “Echoes – Pratidhwani: Becoming Enlightened, Living in the Light”, marked the first large-scale diocesan youth gathering of its kind, highlighting the Salesians’ ongoing commitment to youth formation, leadership, and faith-based community building.

Organised under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Aplinar Senapati, the event was driven by the Salesian Province of Hyderabad, with active leadership from Fr. Pramod Baghsingh SDB, Regional Youth Director, and Fr. Jameson Nayak SDB, who coordinated the execution of the program. Fr. Pramod Nayak, Diocesan Youth Director of Rayagada, also played a key role in guiding the young participants.

The program began on the evening of March 25 with the arrival of delegates, followed by orientation, group formation, and introductory activities designed to foster fellowship among participants. The opening sessions included praise and worship, animated adoration, ice-breaking activities, action songs, and a Bible quiz conducted through the Kahoot digital platform, reflecting the Salesians’ innovative approach to youth engagement.

The formal inauguration on March 26 featured the lighting of the lamp, prayer dance, welcome address, and theme presentation. Delivering the keynote message, Fr. Pramod Baghsingh SDB called on the youth to recognise themselves as “God’s echoes”, urging them to reflect divine love and truth in society.

A career guidance session led by Fr. Justine focused on future readiness and vocational discernment, while group discussions on leadership and the role of youth in Church and society drew active participation.

The day’s central spiritual highlight was the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Shantichandan Pani, Vicar of the Diocese of Rayagada. Several Salesian and diocesan dignitaries attended the celebration, including Fr. Kishore, Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Hyderabad,  Fr. Joji Reddy, Provincial Youth Director, and Fr. Prakash Khira, Regional Director of Odisha.

Further sessions addressed contemporary youth concerns, including leadership, migration challenges, and the influence of digital media, with Fr. Naresh, Principal and Vice-Rector of Navanirman Don Bosco, leading the discussions.

The second day opened with morning prayer and scriptural reflection, followed by sessions on human rights, democracy, sacraments, and youth as agents of social change. Special spiritual accompaniment sessions titled “In Abraham’s Tent” and “Jacob’s Ladder” offered participants opportunities for confession, counselling, and personal guidance.

The concluding Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop Aplinar Senapati CM, who encouraged the youth to become witnesses of Christ’s light in society. The event concluded with the Way of the Cross, praise and adoration, and a vibrant cultural program, showcasing the talents and enthusiasm of the participants.

Salesian leaders described the gathering as a milestone in youth ministry in the region, emphasising its role in nurturing spiritually grounded and socially responsible young leaders. The organising team also expressed gratitude to Fr. Wilson Jose, Rector of Navanirman Don Bosco, for his continuous support and leadership throughout the event.

Youth Fest 2026 stands as a significant expression of the Salesian charism of accompanying young people, reinforcing the mission of forming good Christians and responsible citizens.
