News reported by: Edmond Thyrniang
The community of Don Bosco Philosophate, Karunapuram, celebrated its Cultural Day with joy and enthusiasm on February 17, marking a vibrant expression of the community’s rich cultural diversity united in the spirit of Christ.
The day’s celebrations began with a unique culinary initiative: the brothers prepared traditional dishes from their respective regions. Authentic delicacies, including Khasi Jadoh, Adivasi chutney, and other regional specialities, were cooked with dedication and teamwork, reflecting the community's cultural roots and shared fraternity.
In the evening, the community gathered for a colourful cultural programme compered by Br. Wanpher Lyngdoh Ryntathiang, Dean of Don Bosco Karunapuram. Fr. Suman Goli, Vice-Rector of the Don Bosco Community and Principal of Vishwa Jyothi Don Bosco College, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. In his address, he highlighted India's cultural diversity and emphasised that, despite differences in language and tradition, the community remains united in Christ.
The brothers presented a rich array of cultural performances from Khasi, Odia, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, and Assam. Through traditional dances, songs, and poetic renditions performed in traditional attire, the participants not only entertained the audience but also communicated the history, beliefs, and practices of their regions.
The celebration concluded with words of appreciation from Fr. Joseph Palla, Administrator, who thanked the brothers for their careful preparation and spirited performances. He encouraged them to cherish their diverse cultural identities and to grow in openness and unity, noting that such harmony would significantly shape their future mission.
The programme ended with the community sharing a sumptuous meal prepared by the brothers themselves. Cultural Day 2026 thus emerged as a meaningful celebration of unity in diversity, strengthening bonds of brotherhood and leaving the community with renewed joy and gratitude.
