News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
A three-day workshop on "Participatory Models of Higher Education" began on Monday at Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli, jointly organised by the International Association of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) and the Higher Education Commission of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati. The programme will conclude on July 15.
The workshop has brought together 50 faculty members from the Province's higher education institutions, including Assam Don Bosco University, Don Bosco College Chapaguri, Don Bosco College Tura, and Don Bosco College Diphu. It aims to equip educators with participatory approaches that encourage collaborative learning, strengthen institutional engagement, and advance the Salesian mission in higher education.
Inaugurating the workshop, Provincial Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, called on participants to pursue excellence in higher education by providing quality academic instruction alongside holistic formation for young people. He said the three-day programme would offer fresh perspectives and practical methodologies that faculty members could adapt to their respective institutions, benefiting both students and the wider academic community.
The workshop is being facilitated by education specialists Mr Mark Pixley and Mr Shirish Sebastian, who bring extensive experience in participatory learning and institutional development. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and collaborative exercises, they guide participants in exploring innovative models of teaching, learning, and institutional leadership.
The programme is coordinated by Fr. Abhilash Vadakkekara, SDB, Head of the Province's Higher Education Commission, in collaboration with IUS.
