Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Guwahati, has secured its first government patent for an AI-powered safety device, marking a major step forward in the institute's journey in research, innovation, and technology-driven education.

The patented invention, titled "Wearable Personal Safety Device and Method for Predictive Risk Assessment and Multi-Network Emergency Communication," is an artificial intelligence-powered wearable designed to strengthen personal safety through predictive threat assessment, real-time location tracking, emergency SOS alerts, and seamless multi-network communication. The innovation aims to provide proactive protection and broader public safety benefits, particularly for women and other vulnerable groups.

The patent application was filed on July 1, 2026, and has now been officially published by the Patent Office of India. The invention was developed by Bhaskar Tiwari, Alakesh Choudhury, Bishwajit Daimary, Harsha Bardhan Choudhury, Mayank Anand, Archita Sarma, and Paul Hasda.

The achievement comes just three years after the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Centre at Don Bosco Institute, underscoring the institution's rapid progress in promoting research and innovation. Since its inception, the AI Centre has nurtured creativity, technological excellence, and entrepreneurship among students and faculty, leading to the institute's first patented innovation.

Institute officials described the patent's publication as a defining moment for both DBI and the Salesian Province, reflecting their commitment to advancing technology that addresses pressing social concerns. The AI-enabled wearable device exemplifies how emerging technologies can be harnessed to develop practical solutions that can improve public safety and social well-being.
