Father Angel Fernandez visits Don Bosco Civil Engineering Institution, Metiyagane, Sri Lanka

Father Angel Fernandez after landing on our beautiful island nation Sri Lanka, proceeded to Don Bosco Civil Engineering Institute, Metiayagane, Kurunegala accompanied by Father Joseph Almeida and the councilors and many other Salesians who had gathered at the Bandaranayaka International Airport in Colombo. Upon arrival at the institute he was warmly welcomed by the students.
Here in Kurunegala, which is one of the major Cities of Sri Lanka, the Vice-Province is proud to have established its very first higher education center. The center provides civil engineering courses to boys and girls who are unable to perceive their dreams of becoming engineers due to the prevailing nationalized education policy of the Sri Lankan Government which gives opportunity of higher education only to a few students due to the insufficient number of national universities. The unaffordable expense of perceiving higher education in private colleges too is a factor that has made this institution a very welcomed venture of Salesians by the poor and needy but studious and determined students of our island nation. The institution is built on a land donated by the Bishop of Kurunegala and the project was funded by Foundazione Italcementi Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti- Italy. The institute provides the government recognized NVQ (National vocational qualification) standard courses. Since the institution is qualified to issue NVQ levels five and six it is one among the few government recognized university colleges of Sri Lanka, ensuring job opportunities within the country and abroad.
