Guwahati Province Charts Pastoral Priorities at Annual Commission Meeting

The Salesian Province of Guwahati held its annual Commission Meeting at Mario Hall, Provincial House, Panbazar, on July 8 to review ongoing ministries and outline action plans for the 2026–2027 pastoral year.

Describing the commissions as vital instruments for implementing the Province's mission, Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of Guwahati, commended those that had actively carried out programmes contributing to the pastoral, educational and social apostolates during the past year. At the same time, he encouraged less-active commissions to renew their commitment and to focus more directly on the Province's mission priorities.

Calling the gathering a moment of discernment and collaborative planning, the Provincial urged participants to focus on the evolving needs of young people and the wider community. He expressed concern over the declining enrolment in Salesian hostels and the reduced involvement of youth in vocation promotion, inviting the confreres to rekindle Don Bosco's spirit of welcoming, accompanying and mentoring young people, especially those most in need, rather than concentrating solely on maintaining existing institutions.

Following the inaugural session, participants met in their respective commissions to prepare action plans for the coming year. The afternoon featured presentations outlining the Province's main priorities and proposed initiatives across its various sectors.

The commissions represented included School Education, Higher Education, Non-Formal Education, Youth at Risk, Migrants' Desk, Parish and Mission, Youth Centres and Oratories, Scouts and Guides, Formation, Social Communication, Finance, Protection of Minors, Ecology, and other ministries.
