Forty-Three Bosconians Turn Food Fest into Mission of Hope and Service
In an inspiring display of compassion, teamwork, and youthful leadership, 43 members of the Samaritans Club transformed a school's Food Fest into a meaningful service mission by raising funds for a fellow student battling acute leukaemia.
Guided by student leaders Nancy Barla and Vibuti Topno, the young Bosconians organised and managed 12 food stalls on the school campus, offering a variety of culinary items to their schoolmates. What distinguished the initiative was that every stage of the event—from planning and budgeting to procurement, preparation, and sales—was carried out entirely by the students themselves.
Together, the Samaritans Club showed the Salesian spirit of forming socially responsible, compassionate young people. The initiative not only showcased entrepreneurial skills and teamwork but also became a practical lesson in leadership, accountability, and selfless service.
Fr Babu Varghese SDB, Principal of the institution, encouraged the students to donate the entire proceeds from the Food Fest towards the treatment of Alisha Soreng of Class 12, who is currently undergoing treatment for acute leukaemia. The gesture added a deeper humanitarian dimension to the event and reflected the students’ willingness to put others' needs above their own interests.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Ujwal Emmanuel Bando said the efforts of the 43 students had become a beacon of hope and inspiration for the entire school community. He noted that their compassion, enthusiasm, and commitment to service deeply moved parents, teachers, and fellow students alike.
More than a fundraising activity, the Food Fest emerged as a living example of faith translated into action. Through their generosity and collective effort, the members of the Samaritans Club demonstrated that young people, when driven by purpose and compassion, can become powerful agents of change in society.
