Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra Empowers Rural Youth Through Residential Spoken English Camp
Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK) successfully organised its Residential Spoken English Camp 2026 to improve students’ spoken English skills while nurturing their confidence, creativity, and overall personality development. The camp brought together 75 students from rural regions, including Dhadgaon, Talasari, Dudhni, Karjat, Beed, and villages around Ahilyanagar.
The residential programme created a unique platform for students from diverse backgrounds to live, learn, and interact together. For many participants, it was their first experience away from home and their first opportunity to engage closely with students from different regions. The camp environment encouraged learning not only through classroom teaching but also through teamwork, shared activities, and everyday communication.
Each day began with meditation sessions and tongue twisters designed to energise the students and build confidence in speaking English. The Spoken English classes focused on vocabulary building, pronunciation, sentence formation, reading, and conversation practice. Loud reading sessions, study hours, and weekly tests encouraged students to use English in their daily interactions actively.
The camp also offered several informative and interactive sessions aimed at holistic development. Students participated in programmes on media awareness, artificial intelligence, and digital safety; personality development; emotional wellbeing; communication skills; career guidance; computer education; and art and craft. Basic computer training and exposure to digital tools gave many students valuable first-hand experience with technology.
Games, animated activities, creative workshops, and group interactions made the learning process engaging and enjoyable for the participants.
A major highlight of the camp was an exposure visit to Don Bosco ITI, Chinchwad, and Rasquinha Don Bosco, Chakan. During the visit, students were introduced to technical education, skill development programmes, and various career opportunities. The exposure broadened their outlook and inspired many of them to dream beyond the limitations of their rural surroundings.
One of the most significant outcomes of the camp was a visible increase in students’ confidence. Many participants who initially hesitated to speak in English gradually became active in classroom discussions, stage presentations, and social interactions. The camp fostered a supportive atmosphere where mistakes were treated as part of the learning process and every effort was encouraged.
The camp was organised under the guidance of Fr George, Director of BGVK, along with Fr Clarence, Administrator, and Br Ambrose, Camp Coordinator. Sr Mabel, Ms Ankita, and volunteers Presley, Riya, Jill, and Gloria actively animated the sessions and accompanied the students throughout the programme.
The camp concluded with a vibrant Graduation Day celebration featuring dances, songs, anchoring, dramatic performances, and a musical presented entirely in English by the students. Parents and guests expressed admiration at the remarkable transformation achieved within a short span of time.
Chief Guest Mr Vikram Pathare, DDM NABARD, congratulated the students for their dedication and appreciated the organisers and volunteers for their committed efforts in empowering rural youth through education and skill development.
