The Department of Mass Communication at Assam Don Bosco University hosted an enriching cross-cultural dialogue, bringing together distinguished media and academic leaders from Sri Lanka for an engaging exchange of ideas.

The session featured Dr Chani Imbulgoda, Registrar of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, and Mr Ajith Naragala, Former Director General of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

The dialogue traced the age-old cultural and historical ties between India and Sri Lanka, highlighting shared traditions, artistic exchanges, and longstanding people-to-people connections. The speakers reflected on how these historical bonds continue to shape contemporary collaborations across media, the arts, and communication.

Moving from history to the present-day digital landscape, the discussion examined the transformative impact of digital media on Generation Z. Mr Naragala shared industry insights into the evolution of broadcast media and the challenges traditional television faces in adapting to rapidly changing consumption patterns. Dr Imbulgoda emphasised the growing role of creative arts and visual storytelling in shaping narratives across borders.

Participants were offered rare glimpses into media management, policy decisions, and the shifting dynamics of audience engagement in the digital era. The interactive session encouraged students and faculty to reflect on the responsibilities of communicators in a globally connected world.

The event concluded on a note of mutual appreciation and renewed commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding through media and academic collaboration.
