Mumbai Social Ministry Delegates Review CSR, Governance and Poverty Eradication Initiatives

The Social Ministry Delegates Meet 2026 brought together delegates from across the province to review ongoing social ministry initiatives, strengthen institutional collaboration, and explore emerging opportunities in the development sector.
Opening the meeting, Fr. George Miranda, Executive Director of the Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), outlined the objectives and agenda for the day. Fr. Robert Pen, Vice Provincial, then addressed the delegates and commended the confreres for their dedicated service to the poor and marginalised. He proposed a practical framework for social ministry centred on six guiding principles—See (mapping), Serve (connect), Empower, Witness (presence), Report, and Pray—to enhance effective and compassionate outreach.
The meeting featured a series of technical sessions focusing on governance, compliance, and sustainable development. Fr. Anton D'Souza, Economer-INB, presented the key Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) compliance requirements for non-governmental organisations. A joint session by Fr. George Miranda and Mr Mahesh Kumar reviewed the progress of ongoing projects while examining emerging CSR trends and partnership opportunities.
Fr. Tony Pellissery, Director, Mission Poverty Eradication, delivered a presentation on multidimensional poverty eradication, advocating holistic approaches to sustainable development and highlighting the importance of auditing poverty-alleviation interventions undertaken across the province.
The programme concluded with an interactive experience-sharing session during which delegates discussed practical challenges and future priorities. Participants offered recommendations on addressing Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) complexities, strengthening institutional governance, developing innovative projects, responding to the aspirations of young people, and effectively communicating the impact of development initiatives, highlighting the province’s immediate priorities.
The meeting then served as a platform for shared learning, collaboration, and renewed commitment to advancing the province's social ministry. Fr. George Miranda concluded the programme by expressing gratitude to the delegates, the Provincial, the staff, and the Rector of the host community for their support and contributions.
