DISHA Don Bosco Camp Connects 130 Tribal Villagers to Government Welfare Schemes
DISHA Don Bosco Kawant organised a Government Schemes Facilitation Camp at Goddha, a border village in Gujarat's Kawant taluka, on July 17. The camp connected 130 tribal villagers to government welfare schemes and essential public services.
The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between government programmes and underprivileged rural communities by offering doorstep assistance to women, men and children who often struggle to access government offices because of distance, lack of awareness and financial constraints.
The camp offered services including seasonal agricultural assistance, ration card corrections, Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures for widow and old-age pension beneficiaries, Aadhaar card updates and guidance for students applying for the Navodaya entrance examination.
Beneficiaries from the nearby villages of Goddha, Kanalwa, Gungaliya and Rayasa Chikhli participated in the programme. Of the 130 people who used the services, 51 were women, and 79 were men.
To ensure financial limitations did not prevent access to government benefits, DISHA Don Bosco Kawant provided free photocopying for required documents. Participants received the initiative well, and many identified documentation costs as a major obstacle to completing official procedures.
The camp was conducted in the presence of Fr Dr Mayank Parmar, Rector of DISHA Don Bosco Kawant, Mr Hasmukh Christian, Programme Officer, and DISHA staff members, who coordinated services throughout the day.
The event was also attended by village Sarpanch Mr Kunvarbhai Rathwa, former Sarpanch Mr Sundarbhai Rathwa, members of the Gram Panchayat, local leader Mr Nangrubhai and Mr Vechatbhai, President of the Goddha Yuva Vikas Mandal, whose participation encouraged wider community involvement.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Parmar stressed the importance of creating awareness about government welfare schemes among marginalised communities. He said better access to such programmes could improve the quality of life of tribal families and support sustainable community development. He also urged villagers to help one another access available government benefits.
