Salesian Youth Meet in Perambur Celebrates Faith, Culture, and Mission with Rector Major Fabio Attard
The Salesian Youth Meet held on Saturday evening at Don Bosco Higher secondary school, Perambur, brought together hundreds of young people from the Chennai and Pondicherry regions in a vibrant celebration of faith, culture, and youthful enthusiasm. The gathering was marked by joy, energy, and a strong sense of belonging as the youth met the Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, Fr. Fabio Attard, Successor of Don Bosco.
A major highlight of the visit was the Rector Major’s inauguration of the new Multi-purpose Don Bosco Hall on the Perambur campus. Officially opening the modern facility, he dedicated it to holistic growth, creativity, and community building. The new hall stands as a visible sign of the Province’s commitment to offering young people an environment that nurtures their talents and supports their integral development.
Following the inauguration, the evening programme unfolded as a rich blend of prayer, cultural expression, and creative presentations. Music, dance, drama, and traditional Tamil art forms filled the campus with colour and rhythm, showcasing not only the artistic abilities of the youth but also their rooted cultural identity and confidence as part of the Salesian family.
The defining moment of the meeting was the Rector Major’s dialogue with the young. Speaking with simplicity and fatherly warmth, he invited them to remain firmly rooted in faith while courageously serving others. He reminded them that they are not merely beneficiaries but active protagonists of the Salesian mission, called to build a better society. Urging them to dream boldly, live responsibly, and place their trust in God, he challenged them to take ownership of their vocation as young Salesians.
Calling the youth to greater maturity, Fr. Attard encouraged them to take responsibility for one another, to stand by their friends, and to seek help without hesitation when in need. He underlined that the family spirit must define every Salesian presence, affirming that each young person is a child of God deserving education, dignity, and loving care.
The participants received the message with rapt attention and enthusiastic applause. More than a scheduled programme, the gathering became a meaningful encounter—a living bridge between the Successor of Don Bosco and the young who continue to carry his dream forward. The evening concluded with a renewed commitment to Salesian values, leaving behind a spirit of unity, joy, and missionary hope.
