Workshop on Building Strong Marriages Launched at Don Bosco Academy, Seawoods
The Don Bosco Prafulta Centre for Psychological Wellness, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Smart City, Navi Mumbai, hosted the first session of a new workshop series titled “Stronger the Foundation, Longer the Marriage” at Don Bosco Academy, Seawoods. The initiative aims to equip couples and individuals with the skills and awareness needed to prepare for married life, focusing on both its joys and challenges.
Fr. Barnabe D’souza, Rector of Don Bosco Navi Mumbai, set the tone in his opening address by highlighting real-life challenges faced in marriage, particularly the importance of communication, empathy, and conflict resolution. Sharing a humorous story about a couple arguing over a toothpaste tube, he underscored how minor issues can escalate without mutual understanding. He also emphasized the importance of financial planning, respecting differences, and fostering compatibility as vital pillars of a successful marriage. To add a touch of fun, participants engaged with “joke pluck cards,” which encouraged bonding through laughter.
The session continued with psychologist Ms. Janaki Bhand, who delivered an insightful presentation on the meaning of marriage. She invited participants to reflect on their expectations, challenge common myths, and distinguish assumptions from facts. Through worksheets and group discussions, couples assessed their readiness for marriage and explored creating a shared vision for the future. She also cautioned against the influence of unrealistic portrayals on social media and offered practical tips for navigating its impact on relationships.
Learning and Development Consultant Ms. Lynn Vaz concluded the workshop with a dynamic session on effective communication. Using real-life examples, games, and rapid-fire activities, she guided participants on active listening, conflict resolution, and building trust.
The program marked a strong beginning to the series, leaving participants with practical tools and renewed awareness. Organizers stressed that strong marriages are not built overnight but nurtured over time through communication, understanding, and shared values.
