Fr. Maippan Paul, Salesian Communicator, Dies Suddenly at 62

19 April 2026
News reported by: Fr C M Paul SDB

The Salesian family of Dimapur Province and across Northeast India is mourning the sudden death of Fr. Maippan Paul, SDB (62), who passed away following a heart attack at Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh, on Sunday, April 19, at 5:05 a.m. Fr. Paul was also the former delegate of the Salesian Province of Dimapur for BOSCOM South Asia.

Fr. Paul’s demise has left a significant void in both the pastoral ministry and the apostolate of communication of the Catholic Church in the region. Known for his simplicity and pastoral closeness, he dedicated his priestly life to youth education and evangelisation, embodying Don Bosco’s charism of “loving kindness.”

Throughout his ministry in schools, parishes, and youth centres, Fr. Paul was widely respected for his ability to connect with young people and guide them in faith and responsible living. Confreres, lay collaborators, and students deeply valued his presence.

As Province Delegate for Social Communications, he played a key role in strengthening the Church’s media engagement in Northeast India. He actively promoted BOSCOM initiatives, encouraged ethical and creative use of media, and mentored many in journalism and digital communication. His work underscored the importance of communication as a pastoral instrument for evangelisation and social transformation.

Fr. Paul, as an active member of BOSCOM South Asia, contributed significantly to the network’s mission. His insights and commitment ensured that the Dimapur Province remained closely connected with the wider Salesian communication movement at the regional and global levels.

His legacy endures in the institutions he served and in the many lives he influenced through his pastoral care and vision for communication. His sudden passing serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility, even as his witness continues to inspire the Church’s mission among the youth.

The funeral Mass and burial will take place at Salesian College, Dimapur, on Tuesday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m.
