The Salesian Province of Mumbai formally welcomed Fr. Ashley Miranda as its 12th Provincial during a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Shrine of Don Bosco’s Madonna, Matunga, on September 8. The installation ceremony, marked by gratitude and renewed commitment, drew together Salesians, collaborators, and members of the Salesian family.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Biju Michael, Regional Councillor for South Asia, in the presence of Provincials from across the region. In his homily, Fr. Michael reflected on the genealogy of Jesus, noting how God entrusted leadership to individuals with diverse qualities and limitations. He called on the faithful to support Fr. Miranda with prayers as he begins his ministry and extended heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Provincial, Fr. Savio Silveira, for his dedicated service.

The liturgical celebration gave way to a cultural and felicitation programme at Don Bosco High School’s undercroft. The Don Bosco High School band energized the gathering with El Cumbanchero, followed by a prayer dance from the Don Bosco Daily Oratory girls. A highlight of the occasion was the release of the English translation of Don Bosco’s Letter, prepared by Fr. Ian Doulton and Fr. Valerian Pereira, officially launched by Fr. Michael.

In his farewell message, Fr. Silveira expressed profound gratitude to Salesians, collaborators, and lay partners for their support throughout his tenure. The brothers from Divyadaan added a reflective note with their rendition of Que Sera Sera, reframed as a song of blessing for the new Provincial.

Taking the stage, Fr. Miranda thanked God, his confreres, and the Salesian family for their presence and encouragement. Echoing the homily’s theme, he emphasized humility in leadership, acknowledging that God often works through imperfect yet willing servants.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks from Vice Provincial Fr. Robert Pen, who acknowledged all who contributed to the day’s success. The event stood as a moment of transition, prayer, and recommitment to the mission of Don Bosco in the Mumbai Province.
