PROJECT CALLS 2.0 - AN INITIATIVE TO BENEFIT TRIBAL COMMUNITY DURING COVID19

Yercaud, India (INT): The two prestigious and people centred organizations: Shevaroyhills Tribal Development Institute (STDi) a wing of SPS INDIA FOUNDATION, The Retreat - Don Bosco, Yercaud and Jugend Eine Welt (JEW) inaugurated their Project CALLS 2.0 (COVID19 Alternative Livelihood and Living Services). This is their second intervention during the time of COVID19 to give alternative livelihood for the tribals of Yercaud. The project will train 80 persons in nursery plant growing and generate income with a stipend of standard daily wage during the training.
The event began with the registration of the beneficiaries. The event was marked by the presence of Fr. Agilan, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian province of Tiruchy, who inaugurated the project. Mrs. Rajalakshmi, an Organic Farmer and trainer and Mrs. Jayanthi, the Assistant Engineer of Yercaud Union presented their life experiences about nature and Agriculture. Mr. Ramachandiran, the Panchayat President of Manjakuttai Panchayat thanked STDi and JEW for their initiatives for being part of the people`s growth. Fr. Selvakumar, the Coordinated the event. Fr. Raj, SDB, Rector of the Retreat - Don Bosco in his address thanked JEW for its accompaniment and support for people-centred innovative initiatives. The symbolic inauguration was held on 24th January 2021, on the feast of St. Francis de Sales. ``Hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. to nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.`` Alfred Austin.
