9 New Salesians Born in Kolkata Province

Dhajea, Darjeeling - The feast of Mary Help of Christians this year witnessed the birth of 9 new Salesians in Kolkata province at Nazareth Bhavan Dhajea, Darjeeling, 24 May 2019. Of the nine new Salesians who made their first profession was one Salesian Brother.

Provincial delegate, Provincial Economer Fr Vincent Mondol presided over the first profession ceremony along with two jubilarians as witnesses - Rector of Salesian College Siliguri Fr Mathew Pulingathil and Spiritual Director at Novitiate Fr Sebastian Champanil who mark 50 years of their first profession.
 The ceremonies started off on time at 10 am with the Novitiate Vice-Rector Fr Jai Masih as Master of Ceremonies inviting Novice Director Fr Samuel Mondol to introduce the candidates for first profession. After introducing the candidates Fr Mondol announced the good news of 16 new novices starting novitiate on 24 May evening. Of these, 3 novices each are for New Delhi and Guwahati provinces, while 8 are for Kolkata province.
 In his welcome words before the ceremonies, Provincial delegate Fr Vincent Mondol thanked some 25 priests, 1 Deacon, Practical Training Brothers, Salesian Sisters from Mirik as well as Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians from Dhajea as well as parishioners of Dhajea who came for the function. In a special way Fr Mondol thanked Bursar of Don Bosco Liluah Fr. V.T. Anthony for his community`s continued support of the novitiate community.
 In his homily Fr Mondol, reminded the Salesian Family members as well as the newly professed Salesians what Don Bosco wrote in his book entitled The Wonders of the Mother of God. He reminded all about the valuable pointers Mother Mary gives for our apostolic life. He also listed some of Mary`s qualities as mentioned by Don Bosco, such as her zeal and persuasion, mercy and compassion, concern and diligence as seen in Jesus first miracle of turning water into wine.
 Fr Mondol exhorted all to follow Mary`s example of ``making the needs of others as one` own. Our vows demand us to make our own the needs of others.``
 Explaining further Fr Mondol said, ``this is the meaning of religious life, `making the needs of our brothers [and sisters] our own.``` Of the newly professed, Brother Ashish Tete and 5 Clerics Mukesh Barwa, Joseph Dhanwar, Asit Dung Dung, Sanju Jani Mondol and Sanjeeb Tigga belong to Kolkata province. The remaining 3 clerics Rasal Kujur, Jacob Lakra and Peter Maukal belong to Guwahati province. Among two Brothers of cleric Maukal witnessing the first vows was Fr Liben from Salana parish under Tezpur diocese.
 Fr. James Mathew, the newly appointed Socius at Dhajea preached the retreat as immediate preparation for the first vows. The celebrations which lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes concluded with fellowship meal for all. END
