Delhi Provincial Chapter - Second Day

10 February 2010
News written by: Fr. Noble George
The Provincial Chapter entered the second day with a special celebration of the Eucharist centred around the theme, Salesians - Missionaries to the Young. Fr. Melchior Tirkey, the main celebrant, in his homily invited the participants to be like Zaccheus - eager to meet Jesus, ready to be cleansed by Him and experience the joy of being with Jesus so that we can offer Him to the young. During the Eucharist, the jubilarians of the Province were specially remembered. Fr.Joseph Chittattukalam - 50 years as a Salesian, Frs. Melchior Tirkey, Libratus Bara and Simon Ekka - 25 years as priests and Frs. Amrit Ekka, Henry Kumrawat, Babu Varghese Thoombalan and Bro. Mani - as Salesians.
At 9.00 am all the Chapter Fathers gathered in the conference hall for the first session of the day. After reviewing the minutes of the proceedings of the previous day, the moderator, Fr. Shilanand Kerketta, introduced the first theme of the chapter ``Da Mihi Animas, Cetera Tolle``. The Chapter members then dispersed into various groups to discuss and deliberate upon the five sub themes of theme one: Starting afresh from Don Bosco, Urgent Need for Evangelization, Need for Recruitment, Evangelical Poverty and New Frontiers. All the five commissions worked hard the whole day studying these themes. At 5.30 pm the members met in general assembly to listen to and deliberate upon the reports of the first two commissions. The day`s proceedings concluded with a half-hour adoration at 7.30 p.m. During the Good Night Bro. Mani Vellaringatt, one of the pioneers of our presence in Jhansi, gave us very informative and inspiring account of the origin of the Salesian work there.
