GUWAHATI, July 12:
Guwahati Salesians Renew Vocational Commitment at Tri-Monthly Recollection
News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
Thirty-nine Salesian clerics and brothers from the Salesian Province of Guwahati gathered at the Provincial House, Panbazar, for a two-day Tri-Monthly Recollection on July 11–12 to renew their commitment to Salesian spirituality, community life, and mission through prayer, reflection, and ongoing formation.
The programme opened on Saturday with an inaugural session led by Vice Provincial Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim, SDB, who urged the participants to deepen their Salesian identity by cultivating a life rooted in prayer, fraternity, and apostolic commitment. He encouraged the young Salesians to remain faithful to their vocation, develop spiritual discipline, and accompany young people with the pastoral zeal of St. John Bosco.
Delivering the principal recollection talk, Fr. Suresh Innocent, SDB, of Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Garden, invited the participants to renew their personal relationship with Christ and view the recollection as a privileged moment for conversion and vocational renewal.
Provincial Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, addressed the brothers on the significance of Practical Training, reminding them to fulfil their assigned responsibilities generously and contribute meaningfully to community life. He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong Salesian presence among the young and encouraged the participants to prepare themselves to become authentic Salesians in the spirit of St. John Bosco.
Fr. Cletus Sebastian, SDB, spoke on "Personality Development and Prayer Life," highlighting the close relationship between personal maturity and spiritual growth. He noted that effective ministry flows from a balanced personality sustained by an authentic life of prayer.
Another formation session was conducted by Fr. Charles Deepen Lakra, SDB, on the theme "Salesian Discipline." He explained that discipline is more than external observance, describing it as a joyful expression of fidelity to one's vocation, community life, and apostolic mission. He encouraged the participants to embrace discipline as a path to greater freedom, responsibility, and evangelical witness.
The recollection concluded with an interactive Group Dynamics session on "Salesian Discipline: A Way Forward," during which participants reflected on practical ways to strengthen discipline in their personal lives, community living, formation, and pastoral ministry.
