SCIP Dimapur Inaugurates New Academic Year with Call to Intellectual and Spiritual Excellence

The Salesian College Institute of Philosophy (SCIP), Dimapur, formally inaugurated the 2026–2027 academic session on Wednesday. The ceremony brought together Salesian priests, philosophy students, faculty, and guests to celebrate learning, formation, and community life.
Organisers held the programme under the theme “Igniting Minds, Inspiring Hearts: Commencing the Journey of Excellence,” and dedicated the new academic year to intellectual growth and priestly formation.
Welcoming the gathering, Fr. Elow Samuel, SDB, Rector of SCIP, reflected on the significance of a new academic journey. He honoured the legacy of previous contributors. He extended a warm welcome to new community members and introduced the first, second, and third-year brothers.
In his address, Fr. Samuel highlighted how philosophy shapes future priests. He characterised philosophy as a rigorous, systematic examination of human existence, ethics, values, and reasoning. He urged students to engage deeply with the discipline.
“Philosophy should help us not only to think but also to pray. It forms us into sensible and reflective priests capable of guiding others with wisdom and conviction,” he said.
The keynote address was delivered by Fr. Jaison Thomas, Rector of Good Shepherd Seminary. He challenged students to cultivate the qualities of both philosophers and friends. Drawing inspiration from Saint John Bosco, he noted that philosophy begins with a willingness to pause, observe, and reflect critically on life.
A key segment of the programme featured Fr. Samuel Augustine Gangmei, SDB, Dean of Studies, presenting the academic guidelines. He detailed the academic expectations, institutional regulations, and formation objectives that will guide students through the academic year.
SCIP begins the new academic session with 85 brothers enrolled. They represent various Salesian provinces and regions. The student body comprises 28 first-year, 31 second-year, and 26 third-year brothers.
Organisers concluded the celebrations with a spirited volleyball match between first- and third-year brothers. The first-year team triumphed, energising the first day of the academic year with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
