News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]

Bosco Reach Out (BRO) implemented the Strategic Action for Flood Emergency (SAFE) Project in the Mayang Development Block of Morigaon District, Assam, from October 2025 with funding support from United Parcel Service (UPS) through BoscoNet, New Delhi. The initiative covered Niz Chaharia and Gagalmari Gaon Panchayats and reached 12 villages through various disaster preparedness activities.

The project concluded on 10 March 2026 with an equipment handover ceremony held at Jengpuri Village. As part of the initiative, a Disaster Rescue Team (DRT) comprising 23 volunteers was formed to assist the community during emergencies. The volunteers received intensive theoretical and practical training in emergency and rescue services conducted by the Civil Defence Department and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) from 25 to 27 February 2026 at the Bosco Reach Out Head Office.

The concluding programme at Jengpuri Village was attended by several dignitaries, including Fr. Ignatius Gari, Associate Director of Bosco Reach Out; Mr Luis Monohar, National Project Coordinator of BoscoNet, New Delhi; and Mr Karimuddin, Field Officer of DDMA, Bhuragaon Circle; Mr Mahendra Bora, President of Niz Chaharia Gaon Panchayat; and Mr Shanti Biswas, President of Gagalmari Gaon Panchayat, along with community leaders and social workers.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Ignatius Gari explained the objectives of the SAFE Project and highlighted Bosco Reach Out's mission to support vulnerable communities. He urged the Disaster Rescue Team and community members to use the equipment responsibly for the benefit of the people. Mr Luis Monohar appreciated the local community's active participation and emphasised that such initiatives are vital for reducing disaster risks in flood-prone areas.

Mr Mahendra Bora, President of Niz Chaharia Gaon Panchayat, thanked Bosco Reach Out for strengthening disaster preparedness at the grassroots level. The programme concluded with the signing of an agreement between Bosco Reach Out and the Gaon Panchayat for the proper management and maintenance of the equipment handed over to the community.
