In a continuing effort to promote women’s health and empowerment, the Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad, organized a Free Cervical Cancer Screening Camp for women residing in the Saibaba Nagar slum area of Chinchwad. The initiative was part of the Women Empowerment Project, supported by AXA Global Business Services.

A total of 38 women benefited from the screening conducted by Dr. Pritam Chaudhari and her dedicated medical team, comprising Clinic Coordinator Mrs. Payal Bapat, Nurses Mrs. Maya Bhilare and Mrs. Pratibha Ichke, and Community Coordinator Mr. Keshav Gade. Basic health parameters, including blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen saturation, were recorded for each participant before the detailed tests.

Women aged between 30 and 70 years underwent comprehensive health checks, including Breast Screening (CBC & IBE) and HPV DNA–Cervical Screening—tests essential for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, with long-term benefits lasting up to five years. The medical team is currently awaiting the test results.

Recognizing that early detection is key to lowering cancer mortality and improving treatment outcomes, DBDS aimed to make these preventive services accessible to women from economically disadvantaged communities. The initiative reinforces DBDS’s mission of improving community health and fostering women’s empowerment.

A health awareness session accompanied the camp, focusing on lifestyle and preventive care. Resource persons highlighted the importance of avoiding tobacco and alcohol, maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and leading an active lifestyle through regular exercise. The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, which encouraged participants to clarify their doubts and discuss personal health issues.

Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Akshada from the Don Bosco Development Office thanked AXA Global Business Services for their generous partnership. She emphasized that the Don Bosco province office continues to guide and support development activities across Maharashtra, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration.

The management of Don Bosco Chinchwad appreciated the dedicated efforts of the social workers and medical team. The Development Office confirmed that additional health and empowerment initiatives are planned for the year to support the well-being of women in the region.
