The Ri Bhoi Catholic Youth Shillong (RBCYS), a youth organization under the Don Bosco Youth Centre, hosted its annual Freshers’ Meet 2025 on Sunday, bringing together over 200 Catholic youth from Ri Bhoi District who are studying or working in Shillong.

The gathering, held to welcome newcomers and strengthen bonds of faith and fellowship, featured a vibrant mix of cultural performances, traditional dances, songs, games, and motivational addresses.

The day began with the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Michael Makri, SDB, Director of the Youth Centre and Adviser of RBCYS. In his homily, he urged young people to draw strength from Jesus on the Cross and to embrace life’s struggles as paths to holiness. He pointed to St. Carlo Acutis as a model of Christian youth who lived faith with simplicity and devotion.

The formal session opened with Shri Ronney Wahlang, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, as the Chief Guest. Commending the organizers, he encouraged the youth to remain rooted in their faith, strive for excellence, and contribute to nation-building. Awards were also presented to students who had scored 80% or above in their examinations.

In the afternoon session, Dr. Mary Anne Jyrwa, Chief Guest, and Mr. Rafeal Syngkli, Guest of Honour, addressed the gathering. Dr. Jyrwa praised the creativity, energy, and service-mindedness of the youth, expressing confidence that they would emerge as agents of positive change in society.

The event concluded with action songs and the much-awaited Mr. and Miss Freshers competition, which added a festive spirit to the celebrations.
