‘Let Our Presence Be Sacramental’: Youth Coordinators Embrace Christ-Centred Ministry and Digital Empowerment
To reimagine youth ministry as a sacred encounter, the Youth Coordinators of the Province of St Joseph, Hyderabad, gathered at the Don Bosco Provincial House on July 23 for a day of reflection, strategic planning, and spiritual renewal. The meeting urged participants to go beyond event management and professional execution, anchoring their ministry in deep, Christ-centred accompaniment.
In his keynote address, Fr Santiagu Thomas, Provincial, set the tone for the day with a compelling reminder: “Let our presence be sacramental, not just professional.” Highlighting the essence of the Salesian charism, he underscored that the Preventive System must guide their approach to youth, one marked by presence, trust, and a Christ-like spirit of service.
The Vice Provincial’s presentation on Christus Vivit, Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation to young people, reinforced the need to place Christ at the center of all youth ministry efforts. “It’s not about running programs,” he stressed, “but about creating encounters that bring young hearts closer to Jesus.”
Throughout the day, regional youth animators shared their plans to build vibrant, participatory communities rooted in faith and mission. A strong emphasis was placed on digital engagement as a new frontier for evangelization.
Fr Maddhichetti Noel proposed a digital roadmap for faith animation, advocating the use of online tools to enrich catechesis, prayer life, and community building. His vision was supported by a practical initiative: the creation of a shared digital repository of resources, to be managed by Fr Muthyala Sudhakar, ensuring that all animators have easy access to quality materials and creative ideas.
Another promising proposal was the development of Don Bosco shrines as youth pilgrimage centres, providing sacred spaces for spiritual reflection and renewal. The idea was met with enthusiasm, as coordinators saw in it an opportunity to foster deeper connections between young people and their spiritual roots.
Guest speaker Fr. Medi Sleevaraj, TCBC Regional Youth Director, provided valuable insights from ICYM and MIJARC, highlighting how structured youth movements can foster leadership, social awareness, and spirituality, particularly in rural settings.
The day concluded with the launch of the Youth Ministry Calendar by Fr. Joji, which is designed to guide and align regional activities throughout the year. Regular online check-ins and quarterly in-person gatherings were proposed to ensure continuity, creativity, and communion in youth ministry.
