Social Experience Dimension Shapes New Priorities for Salesian Youth Ministry
Fifteen Social Experience Dimension Coordinators from different Salesian Provinces met at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, on August 7–8 to strengthen Salesian youth ministry and enhance the accompaniment of young people.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Salesian Youth Ministry and the Social Experience Dimension,” the meeting combined prayer, formation, experience sharing, animation, and planning for the 2026–27 pastoral year.
Fr Patrick Lepcha SA, Youth Ministry Delegate, welcomed the participants and reviewed progress from the previous coordinators’ meeting. Fr John Christy led sessions on the Salesian dimensions and the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), focusing on its identity, mission, and spirituality, as well as youth leadership, networking, and collaboration.
The meeting devoted time to province-wise reports. Coordinators shared achievements, challenges and best practices in youth ministry, helping participants learn from Salesian experiences and identify initiatives for other provinces.
The meeting also addressed young people as leaders and the importance of accompaniment. Fr Alex, Youth Director of the INH Province, conducted a session on Youth Leadership and Counselling, using videos, visual presentations and interactive activities. The session explored active listening, counselling skills, responsible decision-making and safe, supportive spaces for young people to express themselves and grow.
The participants then worked on priorities for the 2026–27 pastoral year. Key areas identified included the Salesian Youth Movement, Leadership and Formation (LAF), Scouts and Guides, youth groups and youth centres.
Networking and collaboration among Salesian communities were highlighted as essential for more coordinated and effective youth ministry.
The two-day meeting concluded with a renewed commitment among the coordinators to strengthen Salesian youth ministry and ensure meaningful accompaniment, leadership and formation opportunities, and active participation in the Salesian community.
