Dimapur, July 7:
Dimapur Province Strengthens Salesian Youth Ministry Through Awareness Programme
News reported by: Fr. Blasius Tete sdb, IND
The Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur, hosted a one-day Awareness Programme on the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) on July 7, bringing together 28 Salesians (SDBs) and 10 Salesian Sisters (FMAs) to deepen their understanding of the Salesian charism and strengthen youth ministry across the Province.
The programme was facilitated by Fr Patrick Lepcha, SDB, Youth Delegate of South Asia, and Sr Lolia Annie, FMA, who led participants through key aspects of Salesian Youth Ministry. Their sessions explored the identity and mission of the Salesian Youth Movement, Salesian Youth Spirituality, the role of youth ministry, and the importance of the Oratory and Youth Centre in the educational vision of St John Bosco.
The resource persons explained that the Salesian Youth Movement seeks to educate, engage, and empower young people, enabling them to make responsible life choices and become active participants in their own growth and development. They also highlighted the four essential dimensions of Salesian Youth Ministry—education to faith, educational and cultural development, social experience, and vocational guidance—which together shape the distinctive Salesian approach to youth formation.
During the afternoon sessions, participants reflected on the core elements of Salesian Youth Spirituality, which encourages young people to discover God in daily life, cultivate joy and optimism, deepen their friendship with Jesus, serve others responsibly, and participate actively in the life and mission of the Church.
The speakers also underscored the enduring relevance of the Oratory-Youth Centre as the heart of Don Bosco's educational and pastoral mission, providing young people with a welcoming environment for growth, faith formation, and community life.
The programme concluded with an interactive "Way Forward" session, during which participants resolved to strengthen Salesian Youth Movement units in their local centres and promote greater collaboration in youth ministry throughout the Province.
