Tuem, Goa, June 5:
Salesian Educators Revisit Don Bosco’s Preventive System in Goa
News reported by: Francis Xavier
To prepare for the 150th anniversary of Don Bosco’s Preventive System, educators from Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Oros (Maharashtra), and Don Bosco Tuem (Goa) held a joint seminar on June 5 at Don Bosco Tuem. Sixty-four educators attended to reflect, collaborate, and engage, strengthening the Salesian mission.
The seminar offered three interactive sessions that engaged participants in group discussions, collaborative exercises, and presentations to deepen their understanding of Don Bosco’s educational approach.
The first session addressed challenges facing today’s youth. Fr. Banzelao Teixeira, Vice Provincial, guided participants to identify student issues at their institutions. In groups, educators explored these concerns, prepared summary charts, and presented findings.
The second session highlighted qualities vital for Salesian educators. Drawing on St. John Bosco’s legacy, Fr. Teixeira outlined key characteristics, while group discussions explored ways to embed these values in daily practice.
After lunch, a case study session challenged groups to tackle real-world educational scenarios using Don Bosco’s Preventive System. Discussions produced actionable insights and encouraged the application of these educational values in current school contexts.
Fr. Melwin Ferrao, Principal, concluded by thanking Fr. Teixeira for leading the seminar and expressing appreciation to Fr. Jonathan Rebeiro and Don Bosco Tuem’s community for their hospitality.
