Salesian Family Members Deepen Pedagogical Vision at Three-Day Animation in Dimapur
News reported by: Fr. Santosh Mundu, sdb, IND
Thirty-seven members of the Salesian Family from the Dimapur Province took part in a three-day spiritual and pedagogical animation held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur. The programme, conducted from February 12 to 14, combined a day of recollection for Brothers in Practical Training with a two-day animation on Salesian Pedagogy organized by the SPCSA National Office.
The recollection on February 12 was animated by Vice Provincial Fr. Deli Kapani David, SDB. It featured guided meditation, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, offering participants a space for prayerful reflection and spiritual renewal.
The pedagogical animation held on February 13 and 14 formed part of the South Asia animation initiative for the Salesian Family. The sessions were facilitated by Fr. P. D. Johny, Secretary of SPCSA and AIDBES, and Fr. Patrick Lepcha, SDB, Director of Don Bosco Youth Animation. The Vice Provincial welcomed the participants and outlined the programme's objectives at the inaugural session.
Participants represented various branches of the Salesian Family, including the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), FMA Sisters, Salesian Cooperators, MSMHC Sisters, VSDB Sisters, and Disciples Sisters.
The animation sought to deepen participants’ understanding of Don Bosco and his educational vision, reinforce the practice of the Preventive System based on Reason, Religion and Loving-Kindness, foster a culture of accompaniment and Salesian presence, and equip educators to create safe, engaging and value-based learning environments.
The first day, themed “Rediscovering Don Bosco and His Education,” focused on Don Bosco as an educator and the continuing relevance of his Preventive System. Reflections centred on the Oratory as a holistic space—a Home that welcomes, a School that educates, a Parish that evangelizes, and a Playground that nurtures joyful relationships. Emphasis was placed on the educator’s role as a constant and caring presence, highlighting the core Salesian values of presence and accompaniment.
The second day, titled “Educating with the Heart: Salesian Pedagogy in Practice,” addressed practical classroom strategies inspired by Don Bosco, the creation of protective environments, person-centred teaching approaches and the strengthening of evaluation practices.
The sessions adopted an interactive methodology combining presentations, video inputs, group discussions, quizzes and participatory activities. Participants described the programme as both enriching and practically relevant, appreciating the engaging animation style and the lived experiences shared by the resource persons. The programme concluded on February 14 with a vote of thanks proposed by Cl. Elow Stephen, SDB.
