JWCC Campus Drive Creates Jobs for Meghalaya Youth
News written by: Michael Makri (INS)
The Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC), Mumbai—one of Asia’s largest integrated convention, hospitality, and retail destinations—successfully conducted its first campus recruitment drive in collaboration with the Emporium Skills Training Institute (ESTI–Shillong) and the Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC). The initiative marked a significant milestone in advancing youth employment opportunities in Meghalaya.
A total of 111 candidates from various districts of the state participated in the recruitment process. After three rigorous rounds of interviews, 20 candidates were selected, with offer letters issued on the spot—an encouraging outcome, particularly for a first-time campus recruitment collaboration of this scale.
The selected candidates have been offered competitive salary packages along with a comprehensive benefits structure. These include accommodation, daily transportation, on-duty meals, medical insurance for self and family, joining air tickets, and statutory benefits such as provident fund and gratuity. Subject to medical fitness and standard company clearances, the candidates are scheduled to join JWCC on January 19, 2026.
The success of the drive reflects the sustained efforts of DBYC Shillong, a Salesian institution committed to the holistic development and employability of young people, especially those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. For decades, the centre has focused on vocational training, skill development, career guidance, and job placement, enabling thousands of youth in Meghalaya to become self-reliant and socially confident.
Earlier this year, DBYC Shillong signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ESTI, a professional training institute specialising in aviation, hospitality, and cruise line sectors. Through this partnership, youth were trained in industry-relevant technical and soft skills, as well as discipline and work ethic, aligned with national and international standards.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Fr. Michael Makri reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to bridging the gap between education and employment. “This placement is not just about jobs; it is about dignity, hope, and a future for our young people,” he said.
The successful collaboration with JWCC and ESTI stands as a testament to DBYC’s growing impact in equipping Meghalaya’s youth with skills, values, and opportunities for a more secure future.
