Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), Kedgaon, organized an awareness session on “The Usefulness and Impact of Social Media” on November 1, 2025, at the BGVK Training Hall. The session, attended by 25 teachers from the Remedial Education and Development Project, which is active across 25 villages in Ahmednagar, aimed to equip educators with insights to promote responsible and balanced social media use among students.

The initiative sought to help teachers reflect on their own digital behaviour while encouraging them to guide young learners toward mindful and purposeful engagement with online platforms.

The session began with the screening of thought-provoking videos that explored both the positive and negative aspects of social media. While platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook were acknowledged for fostering creativity, learning, and global connectivity, the videos also highlighted concerns such as emotional isolation, social comparison, and the erosion of genuine interpersonal communication.

Participants were divided into small groups to discuss their observations and share key takeaways. Through active discussions, teachers recognized that although social media encourages self-expression and awareness, it can also lead to distraction and anxiety if used without discipline. The exercise encouraged collaboration and reflection, enabling participants to develop a deeper understanding of healthy digital behaviour.

Facilitators from BGVK emphasized the harmful effects of excessive mobile phone use on focus, productivity, and mental well-being. They urged teachers to model digital discipline and prioritize nurturing real-life relationships alongside online interactions.

The session concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the initiative, noting that it had provided them with practical insights for both their personal and professional lives. Overall, the program successfully reinforced the message that when used responsibly, social media can serve as a constructive tool for education, creativity, and meaningful connection.
