Don Bosco College Observes World Environment Day
Don Bosco College, Golaghat, marked World Environment Day 2025 with a series of initiatives under the global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The event brought together faculty, students, and guests in a collective effort to raise awareness and take action against the mounting threat of plastic waste.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Daisy Gogoi, Assistant Professor, who outlined the importance of environmental stewardship. Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, Principal of Don Bosco College, urged the community to “Go Green and Go Clean” as a united front against plastic pollution. He highlighted the urgent need to address plastic waste, which endangers ecosystems, wildlife, and even human health through contamination of food and water sources.
In a collaborative effort, the Department of Education, in partnership with NCC, NSS, and IQAC, organized a sapling plantation drive on campus. With the generous support of the Golaghat Forest Department, 100 saplings were provided, reinforcing the college’s commitment to creating a greener campus. The slogan “Beat Plastic Pollution” guided the day’s activities, which included sapling plantation, awareness talks, and clean-up campaigns, all designed to inspire and empower participants to become agents of change.
Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Education, elaborated on the theme, encouraging students to “Drop the Plastic and Pick a Plant.” She emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable and eco-friendly habits to secure a healthier future for all.
To further promote environmental responsibility, the college organized clean-up campaigns that engaged students in hands-on efforts to clean local areas and foster community involvement. These initiatives not only address immediate plastic waste accumulation but also nurture a culture of environmental consciousness.
Mr. John Kisku, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, concluded the event by expressing heartfelt gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their enthusiasm and commitment, which significantly contributed to the success of the celebration.
Don Bosco College continues to encourage students and staff to minimize plastic use in their daily lives and adopt sustainable practices. By integrating environmental activities into its academic and extracurricular programs, the college aims to play a pivotal role in combating plastic pollution and building a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for future generations.
