The catechists’ training programme by SPCSA (Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia) for the Salesian Family of Southern provinces of South Asia was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore, from May 7 to 11, 2023. Twenty participants from various Salesian family groups of South India (SDB, FMA, SMA, MSMHC, ASC, VDB and Catechists from Salesian Parishes) participated.

The training programme at Bangalore, coordinated by Fr. Gilbert Choondal SDB, was the second one by the Commission for Salesian Family. Sr. Christine MSMHC, the chief coordinator, had executed one for Northern provinces at Shillong in April 2023.

The eight topics during the programme were Christian parenting and tips for family catechesis, group dynamics, social media skills, Eco-catechetical skills, YouCat skills, Gospel magic skills, preparing lesson plans and praying methods. “All the topics were inspiring, innovative, informative and interesting,” said Mr John Victor, the Salesian Co-operator from the Province of Chennai. It was a do-and-learn programme. “As we move on, we are confident to implement in our respective provinces and settings all that we have absorbed,” expressed Sr. Siji MSMHC while presenting the impressions by the participants.

On the final day, Sr. Padmini FMA read the 5-point action plan to implement the skills in their own setting. Father Jose Koyickal, the Provincial of Bangalore Province and the Coordinator of the Commission for Salesian Family at SPCSA thanked the participants and the main programme organiser, Fr. Gilbert. The participants experiencing the family spirit thanked the Provincial Community at various moments of the final day for their warm hospitality.
