International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and purposeful engagement at Don Bosco Academy, Sutgatti, Hubli, bringing together 330 women from Self Help Groups across Hubli and Dharwad districts, along with participants from Honnihalli in Belagavi. The event fostered a spirit of joy, reflection, and empowerment, highlighting women's dignity, contributions, and rights in society.

The programme commenced with a prayer service invoking divine blessings upon the participants and the day’s proceedings. A melodious prayer song created an atmosphere of reverence and gratitude, setting a reflective tone for the celebration. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising knowledge, unity, and empowerment.

The dignitaries present included the Rector of Don Bosco Academy, Fr. Lionel Braganza; the Social Commission Head, INP, Fr. Santaremnd Lopes; the Project Manager of DSV Company, Belagavi, Mr Chandrasekar; and Advocate Sr. Veronica UFS. They were warmly welcomed with floral greetings.

A key highlight of the programme was an awareness session led by Sr. Veronica UFS, who spoke on women’s rights and dignity. She underscored the importance of recognising the inherent worth of every woman and urged participants to be aware of their legal rights. Encouraging courage in the face of injustice, she also called for solidarity among women to build a more just and respectful society.

The celebration also featured interactive games and group activities that fostered camaraderie and joy among participants. Cultural performances added vibrancy to the event, with participants creatively addressing themes such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the vital role of women in shaping families and communities.

The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony that acknowledged the creativity, enthusiasm, and active participation of the women. Participants expressed that the programme deepened their understanding of unity, self-respect, and resilience in addressing social challenges. The insights shared during the session empowered them to recognise their role as agents of positive change in society.
