Practical Trainees Strengthen Formation at Annual Meet in Pune
The annual meeting of the Practical Trainees and College student brothers of the Salesian Province of Mumbai brought together young Salesians for three days of reflection, fellowship, and renewal at Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Koregaon Park, from October 21 to 23.
The sessions were designed to help the brothers deepen their self-awareness, strengthen their pastoral effectiveness, and rediscover their Salesian identity. The meeting opened with sessions led by Fr. Robert Pen, Vice Provincial, who guided the brothers through exercises that promoted self-awareness and mental wellness. Emphasizing the need to be “fully present among the boys,” Fr. Pen helped participants recognize how unresolved emotions can hinder apostolic effectiveness. His session on PT Experience Processing enabled open dialogue about the realities of community life and the responsibilities of practical trainees. Through the NCD Healing method, he linked emotional healing with pastoral growth, encouraging the brothers to integrate self-care into their mission.
On the second day, Fr. Valerian Pereira animated the group with reflections on Salesian Apostolic Identity, helping the brothers rediscover the deeper meaning of their vocation through the example of Don Bosco. His session on Salesian Youth Spirituality emphasized joy, service, and fidelity as cornerstones of Salesian life.
Fr. Joyston Machado led an engaging module on Personality Development and Public Speaking, drawing insights from Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats. He encouraged the brothers to balance different aspects of their personalities and communicate effectively in their apostolic settings. Practical exercises in public speaking pushed participants beyond their comfort zones, preparing them to engage confidently with young people.
The final day was animated by Fr. Savio Silveira, who shared insights from the recently concluded General Chapter 29. He reflected on the Rector Major’s priorities and urged the brothers to make their practical training a period of genuine growth in responsibility, zeal, and community spirit.
