Salesian Leaders’ Meeting Highlights Legal Empowerment and Pastoral Leadership
The Leaders’ Meeting of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, was held from October 13 to 15, 2025, at the Provincial House, Hyderabad, bringing together key Salesian leaders for days of reflection, learning, and discussion on legal, pastoral, and administrative matters.
The meeting began with a welcome address by the Vice Provincial, followed by a prayer led by Fr. Sudhakar, invoking divine guidance for the deliberations. Fr. Nireekshan, Provincial Secretary, presented a report on the previous Leaders’ Meet held in June 2025, setting the tone for the sessions ahead.
Legal experts Mr. Vijay Raju and Mr. Vinod, advocates with extensive High Court experience, conducted sessions on property management, verification, and legal compliance. They underscored the importance of maintaining accurate records, verifying ownership and possession documents, and ensuring adherence to statutory norms. The discussions also addressed challenges faced by Christian societies, such as ownership disputes, government regulations, and minority board interventions.
On the second day, Sr. Jessy Kurian, Supreme Court advocate, delivered an impactful session on empowerment through legal awareness. She elaborated on fundamental rights, labour laws, and the POCSO Act, stressing the need to safeguard children and promote social justice. Her session also explored the implications of anti-conversion laws on minority communities and the Church’s response.
The concluding day featured Fr. Biju Michael, Regional Councilor for South Asia, who reflected on the priorities of the Congregation and the Region. He emphasised the role of the Rector as a leader and animator, fostering fraternity, collaboration, and shared mission in community life.
The three-day gathering concluded with a renewed commitment to the Salesian mission, underscoring the values of leadership, collaboration, and legal accountability in apostolic ministry.
