Faith, Culture, and Youthful Energy Converge at SHTC Youth Fest 2025
The campus of Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC), Mawlai, came alive with colour, music, and youthful enthusiasm as over 2,500 young people from various Salesian oratories and communities gathered for the grand celebration of the Youth Fest 2025. The day-long event wove together faith, culture, and fellowship, radiating the vitality of the young Church in Meghalaya.
The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati (ING). In his homily, Fr. Bivan urged the young faithful to live their faith with joy and become beacons of hope and service in their communities.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a Prayer Dance in Hindi led by Bro. Jerom. Fr. Sunil Barla SDB, Rector of SHTC, warmly welcomed the participants and felicitated the Chief Guest and Main Celebrant. The stage came alive with a series of captivating performances—the Wangala Dance by Bro. Jeniberth, Diengpasoh Dance by Bro. Mukesh and Mizo Dance by Bro. Charles—each reflecting the cultural richness of Northeast India.
The Chief Guest lauded the Salesian mission for its tireless commitment to empowering youth spiritually, culturally, and socially. The morning session concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. Pyndeilang, Youth Director of SHTC, followed by refreshments and an informal fellowship.
The afternoon Cultural Program unfolded with a group song by the Siejiong Oratory, setting a lively tone for the diverse performances that followed. Young people showcased their traditions through dances, songs, and creative expressions, celebrating unity in diversity under the Salesian spirit of reason, religion, and loving-kindness.
Addressing the gathering, Shri A.L. Hek, MLA, congratulated the youth for their enthusiasm and the organizers for nurturing faith and culture. “This Youth Fest is a celebration of values, creativity, and the strength of our youth. It reminds us that faith can unite people beyond boundaries,” he remarked.
The day concluded with the distribution of mementos and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Bro. Reuben, marking the end of a truly joyous and faith-filled celebration.
