The Karam Festival, a tribal celebration dedicated to Karam Devta, the god of youth, strength, and fertility, was observed with devotion and cultural richness at Don Bosco Loutolim on September 28. Traditionally held during the harvest season, the festival reflects the community’s deep bond with nature and gratitude for its blessings.

Preparations began days in advance with the sowing of germinated seeds in small baskets, symbolizing fertility and prosperity. On the day of the festival, a branch of the sacred Karam tree was ceremoniously brought to the venue, adorned with flowers, vermillion, and offerings, and placed at the center of the hall.

The Eucharistic celebration was led by Fr. Suman Indwar SFX and concelebrated by several priests. Throughout the liturgy, men, women, and young girls sang hymns accompanied by the rhythmic beats of traditional drums, creating a solemn yet festive atmosphere.

Following the Mass, the celebration came alive with folk dances performed in circles around the Karam branch. Marked by graceful movements and drum beats, the dances expressed joy, gratitude, and communal harmony. Cultural performances further added to the vibrancy, turning the event into both a spiritual observance and a celebration of cultural identity.
