Marking the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, a landmark book titled Nicaea I at 1700: Remembering the Council, Renewing the Faith was released at Don Bosco Theological Centre (DBTC), Kavarapettai. The release took place during the Theological Symposium on the theme “Nicaea 325: Legacy and Relevance”, which gathered scholars, professors, students, and guests for a day of reflection and dialogue.

Fr. Pathiaraj Rayappan, Rector of DBTC, formally released the book at the symposium’s closing session. Edited by Fr. Vincent Bosco SDB and Fr. Stanley Jayakumar SDB, and published by ISPCK, the volume brings together an array of scholarly articles that explore the theological, ecumenical, sacramental, historical, and philosophical dimensions of the Nicene Council.

The collection addresses significant themes such as the post-Nicene period of the Church in Asia Minor, the philosophical roots of the Nicene Creed, John Henry Newman’s insights into the Arian controversy, Islam-Christian theological engagement with Nicene doctrine, the role of Nicaea in shaping the Biblical Canon, patristic refutations of Arian heresy, the sacramental dimensions of Nicaea, and Arius’ reading of Origen.

The launch not only symbolized the academic spirit of the symposium but also underscored the enduring relevance of the Nicene Creed in shaping Christian identity and faith. As the Church commemorates 1700 years since the First Ecumenical Council, the book stands as a meaningful contribution to ongoing theological reflection and renewal.
