Don Bosco Youth Leaders in Wayanad for Leadership Training Camp
Over 110 youth leaders from Don Bosco centres across Kerala came together on 6–7 September for a regional leadership training camp at Don Bosco College, Bathery. The two-day event, organized by Don Bosco Youth Services, Kerala, in collaboration with SIGHT Wayanad, blended reflection, skill-building, and camaraderie in a faith-filled atmosphere.
The camp opened with a hymn to the Holy Spirit, invoking God’s blessing on the gathering. Fr. John Muttathuparambil SDB, Youth Director for the Kerala region, welcomed the participants and outlined the programme. The inaugural session was presided over by Fr. Jose Koyickal SDB, Provincial of the Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore, who emphasized the importance of mutual accompaniment in leadership.
The sessions that followed featured inputs from Fr. Varghese Kaplikunnel SDB, Youth Service Delegate, and Fr. Saju, Administrator of Don Bosco College. Fr. Dominic Kaniyantharayil SDB led a session on leadership skills, highlighting self-esteem as the cornerstone of effective youth leadership. Later, Reshmi, founder of the Koottu community in Wayanad, conducted a healing session that encouraged participants to confront past experiences and find renewal through emotional release and communal support.
The first day concluded with an orchestral singing session led by a budding band from Kerala, creating moments of unity through music. On the second day, the group celebrated the Holy Eucharist before embarking on a trek through the Chethalayam forest. The camp’s experiential arc returned to Reshmi’s guidance for its closing session, fostering continuity and reflection.
A final excursion to the famed Edakkal Caves added a cultural dimension, leaving the participants physically tired but spiritually enriched. As the camp ended, the young leaders dispersed with a renewed sense of purpose, joy, and gratitude.
