Youth Ministry Training Revives After 8-Year Hiatus

News written by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]

After a nearly eight-year gap, the Summer Time Youth Ministry (STYM) programme was revived with renewed vigour at Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli. The month-long initiative, inaugurated on July 1, aims to equip clerics in theological formation with hands-on experience in youth animation before they are sent to various Salesian centres to guide and accompany young people.

Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, formally inaugurated the programme and delivered a motivating keynote. "Just as Jesus called his disciples to be the salt of the earth, every youth leader is called to be the salt and light of the world—dispersing darkness and bringing flavour to life," he said, emphasizing the deeper mission of the STYM initiative.

Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB, Executive Director of DBI and Youth Ministry Delegate, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. He thanked the Provincial, Vice Provincial, and Economer for their steadfast support. He noted the STYM revival as a testament to their shared commitment to empowering youth through the Salesian charism.

Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, shared the detailed schedule of the training and praised the collaborative efforts behind the programme's successful relaunch. In his homily, he urged participants to be "animators of hope and builders of communion," highlighting the essential role of youth leaders in today's world.

The STYM programme is expected to be a transformative journey, preparing future animators to lead with faith, service, and a spirit of accompaniment, enriching both themselves and the young people they will serve across the Province.
