Skilled Trainee Earns Sewing Machine Award from Don Bosco Youth Centre
Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong, reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment through vocational training by recognizing an outstanding trainee with a meaningful gesture of support. At a recent ceremony held at the Centre, Director Fr. Michael Makri awarded a sewing machine to Ms. Sinora Khongshei, a graduate of the tailoring and embroidery program. The recognition celebrates her exemplary performance, resilience, and readiness to pursue a sustainable livelihood using the skills she has acquired. As one of the region’s foremost institutions in youth skill development, Don Bosco Youth Centre continues to champion practical training as a pathway to economic independence and personal growth.
Don Bosco Youth Centre has long been a beacon of opportunity for young people in the region, offering a range of skill-based programs including computer literacy, laptop operation, tailoring, embroidery, and other vocational disciplines. The Centre routinely supports outstanding trainees with resources that enable them to transition from training to entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the event, Fr. Makri highlighted that Ms. Khongshei’s recognition was based on her trainer’s assessment of her diligence and commitment. “This sewing machine is not just a tool—it’s a symbol of what hard work and dedication can achieve. We hope it inspires others to pursue their goals with equal passion,” he said.
Ms. Khongshei expressed deep gratitude to the Centre and her trainer, acknowledging the role they played in her development. “I’m truly thankful for the support and guidance I received. I encourage my fellow trainees to stay focused and make the most of the opportunities here,” she shared. Don Bosco Youth Centre continues to foster a culture of self-reliance, confidence, and community contribution among the youth of Shillong and beyond.
