Lights, Camera, Action! Don Bosco IMAGE Film School Rolls Out New Academic Year
Don Bosco IMAGE Film School, Kochi, launched its new academic year with cinematic flair, inaugurating the Film School in a star-studded function graced by acclaimed Malayalam actor, director, playwright, and screenwriter Joy Mathew and popular South Indian actress Aparna Das, known for her roles in Manoharam, Priyan Ottathilanu, and Beast.
The day began with a solemn blessing of the newly renovated film school spaces by Fr Varghese Koottungal, Rector of Don Bosco Vennala. The upgraded facilities—including a Dolby Atmos Sound Mixing Studio, a state-of-the-art Colour Grading Suite, and an expansive shooting floor—set the tone for the school’s ambitious vision in professional filmmaking education.
Joy Mathew, in his keynote address to students, parents, and film enthusiasts, recounted his inspiring journey from street theatre in Kozhikode to becoming an internationally acclaimed filmmaker and actor. Emphasizing the importance of social sensitivity and creative integrity, he urged budding filmmakers to deeply engage with the realities of society to truly excel in their craft, whether in acting, cinematography, direction, or sound design.
Actress Aparna Das shared her story of perseverance in the industry, encouraging students to remain resilient and open to new learning opportunities. Her words struck a chord with many aspiring actors and filmmakers, infusing the event with enthusiasm and hope.
Dr Fr. Bastin Nellissery SDB, Principal of Don Bosco IMAGE Film School, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the school’s mission to be a nurturing ground for future storytellers and technicians who would not only master their craft but also use it meaningfully.
Rector Fr. Varghese Koottungal, Film Director Antony Sony and Fr. Dickson, Director of IMAGE, also spoke on the occasion. The students of Don Bosco School, Angamaly, invoked the divine through a graceful prayer dance, setting a reflective and celebratory tone for the event. Fr Dickson concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that made the day memorable.
With over 70 students enrolled in diverse streams of filmmaking, Don Bosco IMAGE Film School has begun its academic year not merely with classes, but with a full-scale cinematic launch. The message was clear: the show has started, and the reel journey towards creativity and purpose is officially in motion.
